Internship is a time for emerging educators to clarify their personal goals and objectives as well as learn the skills necessary to become successful teachers in the classroom. During internship students observe veteran teachers and also gain practical experience. To give them the practical experience, following the rules and regulations given by University of Mumbai, internship was conducted on the following dates for the A/Y 2017-2018

15th Jan, 2018 till 1st March, 5th Feb, 2018 till 1st March, 2018

Before that the students were oriented with the internship program. Students were made aware of the following work profile to be followed during internship:

Internship for 6 weeks

  •  During Internship, 8 Co-teaching lessons with peers
  •  Maintain Reflective journal
  •  Develop learning resources for the school
  • Prepare an Anecdotal Record of a school student.
  •  Organization of Co- curricular activities in school (cultural events, sports,
  • educational game, cultural competitions, etc)
  • Conduct a School based Action Research
Internship for 3 weeks

  • Observation of school activities (Any three)
  • Observation of lessons given by peers (5  lessons)
  • Shadowing of School Teacher (One Week) 5 lessons to be observed and recorded in Pedagogy of school subject I
  • Teaching lessons in Pedagogy of school subject I (5 Lessons)

Rules to be followed during internship were explained and the following rule list was provided:

  • Reach the school on time (20 minutes before)
  • Each student should have consolidated time table of the group, Student’s Individual Time Table and the contact numbers of all the group members (as per the format given by the College.
  • Update your internship journal (reflective journal) on daily basis.
  • Carry your rough lesson plan (guided) along with final lesson plan in a file and handover that file to the observer before you go to deliver your lesson.
  • Dress code for the Practice Teaching is Salwar Kameez/Saree.( Pin up the saree and dupattas properly). No skirts, jeans, tops etc are allowed. Do not dress shabbily.
  • Tie up your hair properly.
  • Carry all your material with you. Do not disturb the school teachers or school students for books or other stationery material like pointer, Duster, Colour chalks, wall hooks etc.
  • Do not loiter in the corridors of school during the free time. Sit in the room allotted to you by the school during the free time.
  • Do not talk / respond harshly to school students.
  • Respect the school teachers and be polite to them.
  • You cannot leave the school till the last lesson is completed in that group.
  • Use of mobile phones is strictly prohibited in schools, or else the phones will be confiscated.
  • If borrowed any material from college lab, then return the material to college on the same day.
  • Do not damage / break the material borrowed from the college.
  • Do not throw the stickers/ rough pages etc in the class room.
  • Mutual understanding should exist between the group leaders and the rest of the students.
  • If absent for the lesson, that lesson will be cancelled forever and the student will be awarded zero mark
  • Take the supervisor’s remark positively and try to improve. Do not argue with the supervisor on negative remarks.
  • Group members cannot change their periods mutually with each other without taking the consent of Group Incharge and Group Leaders.

Demonstration lessons were given in the college to make them aware about the steps to be followed while teaching.

Practice lessons were taken in college before sending student teachers for real life teaching in schools.

Timely guidance by method masters for lesson planning was provided.

After the lesson delivery by the students, feedback from the supervisor to make the students aware about the strength and weakness was given on regular basis. After giving feedback to individual student, a group feedback at the end of the day was also provided by supervisor.

All activities were systematically documented, maintained and submitted by the students for the purpose of internal assessment.

Overall the Internship programme proved to be beneficial for students. It helped them to gain confidence to face the class and deliver lessons, improve their teaching skills, follow different methodologies of teaching; thus catering the needs of diverse students, develop classroom management skills, become more organize, develop in the area of professionalism etc.
